I have never sewn a holiday specific item of clothing for myself. But I saw this fabric from Raspberry Creek Fabrics and jumped on the Sew Americana blog tour!
I made the Essential Tank by Patterns for Pirates. With a pocket on the front because I love pockets! I just drew a square about the size that I wanted plus seam allowance, made the diagonals on the bottom, folded down the top and topstitched then put on the shirt using Wonder Tape to secure it while I sewed it on.

What is more American than a girl in a red, white and blue tank sitting on top of a humvee? Maybe if I were eating a hot dog or holding a baseball?
Anyway, the Essential Tank is a great pattern. Fit was spot on for me with no alterations other than the addition of the pocket. This was also my first time really combining two prints in to one piece of clothing for myself. I love the result!
